Archive for March, 2009

I know that it has been a while, and I have been slacking. Yeah, it really has been lack of motivation. That and being at the end of the flu season where everyone in the family seems to pass it back forth to each other like we are all playing catch.

Sean and I are calling the band “The Fury of Beautiful Bones” for now. We like it a lot, but seem to get a lot of “it’s too long”. Well, until we figure out something else it is sticking. It is a poem by Anne Sexton, and it is amazing. Read it. You’ll see.

Today we are auditioning our fourth drummer. This guy is going to have to be pretty bad ass, considering the last guy we auditioned was sick.  He was like taking the drummer from Pantera and having him drum for U2. (I may be over exaggerating a bit, as I am sometimes a drama queen)

We have four songs down and plan to record as soon as we have our drummer. I’ll keep you posted, dear blog I promise. This blog is my calendar of events. “Keep a calendar, this way you will always know.” -FOB

Yes. Click the last link… It is sooooooooo good.

Legend Dairy

So, there are a few legendary bands that I can listen to (and find myself doing more of as time goes on) such as Radiohead, U2, The Beatles, Journey (LOL)…. But then there is Modest Mouse. I had the chance to go see them Monday night and was absolutely blow away. They put on an incredible show, while the whole time displaying the FACT that they are no one man band. As the majority of the band were busy showing off their multi instrumental talents such as trumpet, organ, upright, banjo, accordion, and a variety of percussion, I was mesmerized by the over all sound quality and most perfect environment of fans. This band is quite possibly the tightest band I have ever heard live. From the classics to the hits, and the perfect vocals to the screaming into his guitar’s pickups, it felt epic.
So as the jealousy and envy rage through my veins, I will continue to listen to this band, but now with a different respect. I would definitely see these guys again. LegenDairy.

“Opposites attract”

So, the band is coming together nicely, considering that we have almost a full line up. We plan to have a few more auditions on Saturday. We really need a tight drummer to round this whole concept out. Right now, as Sean puts it, “We are looking for our sound”. We hear it, but we haven’t heard it yet. You know what I mean?

No band name yet, not pushing for one. I am excited to sing and play epic choruses with my JCM900 roaring behind me. This is all pretty exciting. Sean is sick when it comes to running the show with his leads. We currently have a bassist who appears to be a genuine bassist. I haven’t met one of these kind of guys in a while. The current drummer is nice to jam with, but I’m not sure that he is the right piece to the puzzle… I guess time will tell.

So I have heard about this band ” Dredg ” for like 10 years now and never gave them a listen. The other night, after Sean mentioned them as an influence yet again, I decided to hunt down their latest album and give it a listen. Fast forward 10 album listens later… HOLY CRAP, where have I been? These guys are amazing. I am addicted to this CD. Haven’t had this happen since… TBS’s “Tell all Your Friends”? When I first heard Taking Back Sunday, the experience changed my whole out look on music from how I want to sound and write to how cool it is to sound different. It is really like a fresh breath of air to an artist to find a new inspiration. So here I am on the edge of a quest for a new sound. Something different is coming. ANYWAZE, Check out Dredg if you get the chance. They are amazing and I can’t wait to see them in April at the Social.

Remember The Oregon Trail? Try FallOutBoy Trail. Sweet.

PS. Twitter is the coolest thing since Beanie Babies. Addictive and annoying. (But still kinda cool)
